The Subaru Impreza has been a staple in the brand's lineup for more than three decades now. Serving as both a sedan and a hatchback, the Impreza has progressed into a fan-favorite since its 1992 introduction. Subaru's high-performance, rally-tested WRX was originally based on the Impreza before splitting off as its own model in 2014. As with most of the other vehicles in Subaru's arsenal, the Impreza employs the intelligent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system that has been upgraded for the 2024 model to provide more stability and traction than ever before. Additionally, the RS trim makes its return for the first time since 2005. The RS returns with a more powerful engine that also comes standard with the Sport trim. 2024 Subaru Impreza Engine and Transmission
The 2024 Subaru Impreza can be had with two engine options, depending on the trim level you select. Standard equipment for the 2024 Impreza continues to be the 2.0-liter flat-four Boxer engine. This puts out 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the aforementioned RS and Sport trim levels are upgraded with a 182-horsepower 2.5L flat-four, producing 178 lb-ft of torque. Subaru uses flat-four engines instead of inline-four engines used by most other automakers because they enhance handling by lowering the vehicle's center of gravity. Both Boxer engines for the Impreza come with Subaru's Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
As we mentioned above, Subaru's legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive has been updated for the 2024 Impreza. With the AWD systems updates, it provides better handling, cornering, and agility, along with faster response times for a more commanding driving experience. The Impreza's newest AWD system now comes standard with Active Torque Vectoring. This intelligent system provides exceptional grip while rounding corners with increased stability. This is done by reducing the torque sent to the wheels on the inside of the curve while increasing the torque sent to the outside wheels. This gives the outside wheels more traction, allowing the vehicle to hug the road while rounding a corner.
Other Performance Equipment for the 2024 Impreza
In addition to the extended engine lineup and revised AWD system, the Impreza gains a few additional upgrades to enhance its performance. First is an upgraded steering rack. Subaru gave the 2024 Impreza its own version of the electronic dual-pinion steering rack that the WRX uses. This gives drivers a more direct and natural steering experience with greater responsiveness and less effort. The 2024 Impreza also features enhanced Subaru Global Platform Chassis that offers torsional rigidity 10% higher than the current chassis. The upgrade to the chassis rigidity makes the vehicle lighter and provides a quieter cabin, improved performance, and a smoother ride.
