Subaru Announces Most Powerful Model Ever

 

If you didn't know before today, Subaru Tecnica International is an owned subsidiary of Subaru Corporation. This company is introducing the limited-edition STI S209, which is the first of its kind to be produced solely for the U.S. market! This S-line STI product encompasses power, aerodynamics, driver engagement, and handling. This vehicle has received bodywork alterations and engine modifications in Kiryu, Japan! The S209 carries an important high-performance tradition with STI-built models, which were usually exclusive to just Japan. We couldn't be more excited that this power-hungry Subaru is being introduced into the United States market, and we want to learn as much about it as we can!

How has the engine been reworked?

The 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine has been reworked to make the S209 better than ever. This engine features an STI turbocharger that has been manufactured by HKS. This engine can pump out around 341 horsepower, which is thanks to the turbine and compressor that are larger than in the previous iteration. Even the maximum boost pressure has been increased to 18,0 psi, whereas it was originally 16.2 psi in the WRX STI. This BOXER engine utilizes connecting rods and forged pistons that are stronger and lighter than ever before. The torque itself has also received a bump of up to 10%, and now delivers even more impressive corner exit speeds whenever you're on the track. Along with this engine is a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, which works with a full-time Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. This system comes with multi-mode vehicle dynamics control, active torque vectoring, a  driver controlled center differential, and front and rear limited-slip differentials.

Can you tell me about the design and inspiration?

The entire point of the S209 is to create a vehicle perfect for high-performance driving. A big source of inspiration for the S209 is the WRX STI Nurburgring Challenge racecar. This vehicle won the SP3T class, which marks the 5th time the STI has dominated the SP3T class. The S209 itself has an expanded wide-body exterior treatment, which makes it 1.7-inches wider than the regular WRX STI. The tires are all-new, and have been developed exclusively for this model by Dunlop. In order to provide the perfect stopping force, the S209 includes Brembo brakes, cross-drilled steel rotors, 2-piston monoblock rear calipers, and 6-piston monoblock front calipers. The fenders help to accommodate wider front and rear tracks, and also help to make a statement.

Are there any other tweaks?

There are a few other key differences between the S209 and other STIs. A few of these differences include an STI badge, a steering wheel that is wrapped in Ultrasuede with silver stitching, a center console storage box that gets the same treatment, Recaro front bucket seats, and S209 badges that can be found on the front grille and fenders. Only 200 of these units are going to be built exclusively for the U.S, and these models will be available in Crystal White Pearl with gold wheels, and WR Blue Pearl with gray wheels.
