Ready for Any Adventure

With standard X-MODE, the Outback can take you almost anywhere. That includes places the competition just can't follow: Honda Passport, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Edge can't match the combination of standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance on the 2021 Outback. X-MODE works by optimizing the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system for maximum traction on slippery surfaces and Hill Descent Control gives you extra stability and confidence when descending more difficult grades.

Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

The 2021 Outback gives you the all-weather, go-anywhere capability of standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive while still delivering on efficiency.

State-of-the-Art Safety

All-Around Awareness Technology

The 2021 Outback features an entire suite of available safety technologies to help protect you and your passengers. The Blind-Spot Detection system warns you with a visual indicator on each side mirror if it senses a vehicle in your blind spots. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert helps warn you of traffic approaching from the side as you back up. And, with available Reverse Automatic Braking, your vehicle can even stop itself to help avoid objects behind you

SUBARU STARLINK® Safety and Security

STARLINK Safety and Security offers an array of connected services to help keep you and your Outback safe whether you're in your vehicle, at your computer, or on your smartphone. Advanced Automatic Collision Notification will alert an operator in the event of an accident, and SOS Emergency Assistance can get you roadside help at the push of a button. Remote Engine Start with Climate Control, accessible via your smartphone, ensures your Outback is always ready and comfortable. There are also STARLINK Concierge services for personal assistance with tasks like navigation, restaurant reservations, and scheduling service appointments.

Spacious, Comfortable, and Convenient

Standard Raised Roof Rails with Enhanced Tie-Downs

Standard roof rails with integrated crossbars provide additional versatility for equipment like kayaks, bikes, skis, and cargo carriers, and can fold away when not in use. The enhanced tie-downs on the 2021 Outback give you even more flexibility and make it easier to rack and unrack your cargo.

SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia with 11.6-inch Touchscreen

A STARLINK Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration comes standard on the 2021 Outback. To make it even easier to select entertainment and view navigation, a high-resolution 11.6-inch touchscreen is also available. Wireless pairing and hands-free smartphone operation allow for safe and easy connection to your favorite apps and content, and you can access news, navigation, music, podcasts, and more through available cloud-based STARLINK apps and SiriusXM®.

The Most Comfortable Outback Ever

Genuine Nappa Leather

The Outback Touring cabin is upholstered in soft and luxurious genuine Nappa leather with contrasting stitching for sophistication you can feel.

All-Season Comfort

The Outback Touring interior doesn't just look warm and inviting. A heated steering wheel helps take the chill out of cold morning commutes. 2021 Outback Interior and Exterior Features

The Outback prides itself on providing a comfortable ride no matter where you go. Standard interior features include automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the 60/40 folding rear seats up, and an impressive 75.7 cubic feet with the rear seats down. Standard on the Outback's exterior are 17-inch alloy wheels, LED responsive headlights, and raised integrated roof rails with tie-down points. Some optional features include heated seats and steering wheel, an 11.6-inch touchscreen, LED fog lights, power moonroof, and a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four Boxer engine!

What Engines Are Available in the 2021 Outback?

Out of the factory, most Outback trims come with Subaru's 182 horsepower 2.5L naturally aspirated Boxer engine. Available on the Outback XT models, Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, and Touring XT is the 2.4L turbo flat-four Boxer. This engine puts out 260 horses and 266 lb-ft of torque, making the 2021 Outback the most powerful yet! This extra horsepower and torque give it a lot more power off the line and more pull at midrange speeds. Both engines are connected to an 8-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to reduce engine droning. In addition to Subaru's world-renowned all-wheel-drive system, XMode is now available across the entire 2021 Outback Lineup. XMode provides drivers with more traction even on low friction surfaces by automatically adjusting engine output, transmission ratio and increasing all-wheel-drive engagement to reduce individual wheelspin.

Standard EyeSight Safety

Across the whole Outback lineup is Subaru's standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The standard EyeSight package includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane keep assist with sway warning, and pre-collision automatic braking. Optional EyeSight features on higher trims include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and DriverFocus, Subaru's distraction mitigation system.
