2019 Subaru Outback vs 2019 Ford Edge near West Chester, PA

The midsize crossover SUV segment is filled with a wide variety of vehicles to choose from. Each SUV is unique in its own right, and that alone makes it difficult to find the right one to choose. The process itself can be stressful, and although it's always important to have options, sometimes there are just too many. We are here to help break down the segment and find the SUV that reigns above them all! To start, we've chosen two of the very best options, the 2019 Subaru Outback and the 2019 Ford Edge. These contenders have always made names for themselves, and they both come out swinging. In the 2019 model year, Subaru has made the EyeSight driver-assist system standard on every single Outback model. This means that safety has been pushed to the very forefront of what the Outback represents. The 2019 Edge receives a few styling changes, and even adds a sporty ST variant. The winner hasn't been crowned just yet! Keep reading to find out who is worthy of being driven home.

2019 Subaru Outback Power & Handling

The 2019 Outback comes with two available engine options. The first of these engines is the 2.5-liter boxer-4, which can output 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. The second engine is a 3.6-liter flat-6, which can generate around 247 pound-feet of torque and 256 horsepower. Both engines have the benefit of working with a continuously variable automatic transmission that includes steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Like every Subaru, you'll also be getting all-wheel drive as a standard feature. This all-wheel-drive system includes both Active Torque Vectoring and X-Mode for low-speed traction. The Outback is the perfect all-weather vehicle. You can even tow up to 2,700 pounds!

2019 Ford Edge Power & Handling

The Ford Edge also comes with two engine options. The first is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, which can generate 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. The second is a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, which can produce 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Both engines work with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The ST model receives steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The smaller engine comes with front-wheel drive as standard, although you can opt for all-wheel drive. It is a let down that all-wheel drive isn't standard for every Edge.

2019 Subaru Outback Features & Design

Six trim levels are available in the Outback lineup. The first of these is the 2.5i, which includes a USB interface, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, EyeSight driver assist, hill hold assist, 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, a 4-speaker sound system, a rearview camera, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, hill descent control, Subaru's Starlink 6.5-inch touchscreen interface, and roof rails with integrated crossbars. Another option, the 2.5i Limited, adds a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 18-inch wheels, a 4-way power passenger seat, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, keyless entry and ignition, driver-seat memory functions, and a power liftgate. Two of the highest trims, 2.5i Touring and 3.6R Touring, include features like fixed low-profile roof rails without crossbars, a heated steering wheel, 18-inch wheels, premium leather upholstery, dark exterior trim, and wood grain interior trim.

2019 Ford Edge Features & Design

There are only four trim levels offered with the Ford Edge. The first of these, the SE, includes features like Bluetooth, 60/40-split folding and reclining rear seatbacks, a 4G data connection and Wi-Fi hotspot, a USB port, rear privacy glass, automatic wipers, voice controls, a 4.2-inch central display screen, 18-inch wheels, and a rearview camera. Another available trim, the SE, includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an exterior keyless entry pad, Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, upgraded cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and power-adjustable front seats. One of the higher models, Titanium, comes with a 110-volt household-style power outlet, noise-reducing front windows, 19-inch wheels, ambient interior lighting, driver-seat memory settings, a hands-free liftgate, leather upholstery, and upgraded interior trim.

If you're looking for an SUV that is reliable to drive, no matter the weather conditions, and offers an extensive list of available trim levels, then you need the 2019 Subaru Outback.
