2018 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2018 Hyundai Tucson near West Chester, PA

The compact SUV segment is pretty crowded these days but there are two models that stand out from the crowd: the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The Crosstrek was completely redesigned for the 2018 model year with a brand new chassis, a more refined cabin design, and an upgraded engine! The Crosstrek is the perfect model for those that are in need of an all-wheel-vehicle that is economical and adventurous! The Tucson is loaded with great features from comfort to technology and safety for the 2018 model year! Plus great interior and exterior style lets it stand out in the parking lot! Check out the rest of our comparison to find out which model we like best!

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Power & Handling

Each 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine. This flat Boxer design means that the engine is horizontally opposed for optimum driving enjoyment. This engine can also be placed lower into the vehicle creating a lower center of gravity. This specific engine powering the Crosstrek creates 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. An increase from last year! The Base and Premium trim levels pair this engine with a six-speed manual transmission but you can opt for the available CVT (standard on the Limited model). Each 2018 Crosstrek is equipped with standard AWD for optimum traction for those trickier driving conditions. When it comes to fuel economy this engine can get 29 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission and up to the 33 mpg highway with the automatic!

2018 Hyundai Tucson Power & Handling

There are two powertrain options for the 2018 Hyundai Tucson. Most models are powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque and can get up to 30 mpg on the highway with standard FWD. Opt for AWD and that lowers to 26 mpg on the highway. The Value and Limited models are powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine paired with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. This engine outputs 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque and gets 30 mpg on the highway with standard FWD. You'll get 28 mpg on the highway if you opt to equip this engine with AWD.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Features & Design

Subaru has completely redesigned the Crosstrek for the 2018 model year! This Crosstrek is built on a brand new platform that delivers enhanced safety and refinement! There are three trim levels available this year the entry-level 2.0i, 2.0i Premium and 2.0i Limited. Standard features include a driver information display, a rearview camera, automatic up and down windows for driver and front passenger, carpeted floor mats, a rear seat with 60/40 split, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a 6.5-inch touchscreen and 17-inch wheels! Move up to the higher trims and you'll gain features like heated seats and mirrors, automatic headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Subaru Starlink services, LED adaptive headlights, leather seating, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon audio system, EyeSight, and navigation.

2018 Hyundai Tucson Features & Design

The Tucson is largely unchanged for 2018 but there are small changes to the trim lineup. Hyundai offers the Tucson in five trims ranging from the base SE to the top of the line Limited. Standard features for 2018 include a six-speaker sound system, a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, a height adjustable driver seat, a rearview camera, heated mirrors, automatic headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels. Opt for one of the four higher trim levels and you'll gain features like upgraded door trim, automatic dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and ignition, Hyundai's Blue Link services, and an eight-speaker Infinity sound system.

Although the Tucson offers more power and choice in the way of engines there is no way this compact SUV can beat the Crosstrek's standard AWD, fuel economy or its incredible standard features!
